The Evolution of a Mission Statement

There is nothing greater in life than waking up to your mission, not your job, every The Evolution of a Mission Statementday.”*

I recently read this sentence, and it really struck a chord with me.  It made me realize that the Mission Statement in our own Celtic Healthcare Employee Handbook desperately needed tweaking!

It currently reads:

“At Celtic Healthcare, it is our promise to promote patient independence by providing a comprehensive multi-disciplinary home healthcare approach, and emphasizing personalized seamless treatment.  We will continually improve our clinical best practices and patient outcomes, while remembering that our patients always come first.  We will use state-of-the-art information technology to coordinate care with our clients and physicians, permitting more cost-effective and efficient services by reducing hospital stay and decreasing recovery time.  We will not deviate from our core values of accountability, mutual respect, teamwork, integrity, and service excellence.  We will always strive to give our patients the absolute best care.”

It says good stuff, but is it a Mission Statement that inspires me every morning?

Well – first of all… it’s too long to even be able to remember every morning when I wake up!

So I set out, with the help of some of our Celtic team, to come up with a Mission Statement that really embodied the meaning, the passion and the fulfillment of what Celtic Healthcare does every day and why.

And after doing some research into what makes a great mission statement… and a lot of thought about what Celtic truly is all about… and wanting to put it into a brief, easy-to-remember statement… we found it!

It’s so simple that it’s hard to believe it took so much thinking.   When we really thought about why we even exist, why we matter, why each of you get up every day and do what you do, why I have such great joy and pride in leading this company…  Our mission simply is:

Innovative healthcare at home.

Mission statements describe why a company exists, they are short and memorable, and they reflect the benefit the customer receives.

Celtic Healthcare exists to provide healthcare (homecare, hospice care, virtual care, private duty care) when and where it is needed most – at home.  Celtic Healthcare is committed to utilizing innovative practices and technology to not only create the most EXTRAordinary care for our patients and customers, but also to be efficient and cost-effective so we can continue to survive in the healthcare market where needs are increasing, but reimbursements are decreasing.

What do you think of our new mission statement?  Are you on board with delivering Innovative Healthcare at Home?  I’d love to hear your comments.

Warm regards,

Arnie
