What a proud day it was recently for Celtic Healthcare Hospice Nurse, Patti Vescio, when her son, Jordan Vescio, Senior Running Back for Quaker Valley High School in Sewickley, PA was honored with the Frank W. Whitlock Senior Memorial Award. On December 11th at the annual football banquet, it was announced that Jordan was chosen by his teammates as the best back on the team. As she proudly listened to the announcement and history of the award, her eyes and ears perked up even more…
Frank Whitlock was a star running back for Quaker Valley (then known as Sewickley) back in the early 1900’s when teams had to ride boats to cross the river to and from Coraopolis to play because there were no bridges yet across the Ohio River. When mention of Frank’s living son, Kenneth Whitlock, was announced, Patti quickly perked up. Could it be the same sweet man that Patti was now caring for at a local assisted living community?
Shortly after that proud night, Patti made her routine call to Kenneth’s wife, Mel, to give her report on Kenneth’s health. After the details of the report, Patti politely mentioned the coincidence of names and circumstances and asked if this might be the same person. It sure was!
On one of Patti’s next visits to Kenneth’s assisted living home, she was greeted by the director with congratulations and accolades on her son’s achievements. “How could she have known?” Patti wondered. But not for long. Mel had told Kenneth…. and just about everyone at the assisted living community. Seems the Whitlock’s, too, are very proud to honor their beloved nurse’s son as well as their father. What a special award and honor for everyone, including all of us here at Celtic Healthcare!
