by Krista Colella, Homecare Physical Therapist at Celtic Healthcare
“I recently treated a 60 year old homecare patient (we’ll call her Ann) who suffered from a fairly massive stroke and left side hemiparesis. Ann had no prior medical history except the birth of her children some years ago. She returned home after rehabilitation with a knee-ankle-foot orthosis and a lot of adaptive equipment. After four visits, I am so excited to share that Ann moved her leg for the first time today! We saw motor control of various lower extremity muscles. As I was treating her, I looked down to see tears rolling out of Ann’s eyes, and they kept coming and coming and coming. Tears of pure joy! It was extremely emotional for her AND for me! I am so thankful for these moments that remind me why I became a physical therapist.”
